Wow...almost a week has gone by already!  One week ago, Molly was in labour and we were both prepared for a long night.  She has proven to be such a good mommy.  Today, she has finally decided she can safely leave them for a little while at a time.  As I type this, she is on my lap getting some much needed "mom" time of her own.  So with that, I will not write anymore.  Tomorrow I will weigh the babies again and see how big they all are...I think they have about doubled in size!

Wow...are those babies ever hungry!  This morning, everyone was sleeping and quiet when I woke up.  Molly was asking to go out when i got into the kitchen.  I lifted her gently out of her pen and took her to the door, then went back to replace yesterdays blankets with nice fresh clean ones.  When those little guys woke up, they were on a serious search for breakfast!  Suckling on everything they could find.  An endless search because the buffet was still outside!  They are getting really strong and are able to crawl around really quite quickly.  I got Molly's breakfast ready and brought her back in.  She stood to eat, with all of these frustrated hungry little bodies crying and searching  for milk around her feet.  When Molly finally finished eating and lay down, she was attacked!  The fervor with which the puppies suckle is incredible!  I put little number 4 on Molly's caudal teat, which is the biggest and one of the best for good milk supply, and he just went to town!

Little #1 really really reminds me of his dad, Dandy.  Dandy LOVES to sleep on his back.  I hope he continues to be like his dad because Dandy is the biggest sweetheart you could ever meet.

Everybody is thriving and eating like little pigs.  Molly is starting to relax a little bit.  This morning when I took her out for her morning pee, she wanted to visit for a minute or two before going back in with her brood.  I am trying to visit her often, to let her know what an amazing job she is doing and to reassure her.  I weighed everyone today as well, and they are all gaining very well.  On average, each puppy has gained about 70 grams already!  Puppy #5 has gained the most...a whopping 89 grams!  He must be good at getting the best spots on the buffet.  The smallest is still little #4 but he is now 222g, and the biggest is #5 at 260 grams.

They are doing well after having dewclaws removed too.  You can hardly tell they were ever there.

Well....day 2 with the new additions.  I feel caught up on sleep now, but I think Molly is still feeling a bit tired.  Who wouldn't?  I am starting to get to know the babies and identifying them is getting easier as I look for distinguishing markings.  Tomorrow is a big day for the crew.  Dewclaw removal day.  It will be great to be able to show Molly's little family off to my vet and I am going to get him to check Molly out too, just to make sure she is doing ok with her recovery from labour.  She certainly seems ok, but I would rather have a second opinion on that.  The other dogs are very curious about the new noises and smells.  But, they will have to wait before meeting all the kids.
